I can almost guarantee that your university has some sort of newspaper or print publication for its students.
Joining the university newspaper can help you practice your writing and editing skills, and it looks great on a resume!
Also, if you’re a communications major interested in a career in journalism, the university newspaper is a great way to gain experience in the media and journalism world. You’ll get to research trending topics, interview people, and write articles that interest your university’s student body.
2. Model UN Club
As a previous Model UNer myself, I highly encourage joining your school’s Model UN club. You’ll gain valuable skills like public speaking, research, and negotiation. And you’ll most likely get to travel to other cities and universities to participate in Model UN debates and conferences.
Joining Model UN is especially helpful if you also have a passion for international affairs.

3. HerCampus
If you’re a communications student who loves writing about all things fashion, beauty, and pop culture you should consider joining your university’s HerCampus chapter.
HerCampus is an international media company that writes about all things university and young adult life. They have chapters at more than 380 universities around the world.
By joining your university’s HerCampus chapter, you’ll get to join a team of students with which you’ll help prepare written articles, manage social media accounts, design graphics, and connect with other students in your chapter.
